Tiago C. Soares is a Researcher at Unesco Chair in Open Education (NIED/Unicamp). He graduated in Social Communication at Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), with a Master’s Degree in Cultural Scientific Divulgation at Universidade de Campinas (Unicamp). He has a PhD in History from the University of São Paulo (USP).

As a researcher and activist, he has followed the education, culture and free technologies movement in Brazil since the early 2000s, and coordinated projects with institutions and working groups such as PUC-SP and the International Free Software Forum. He is a collaborator of the Latin American Network of Studies on Surveillance, Technology and Society (Lavits), and is associated with the groups Information, Science, Technology and Society – ICTS (Unicamp) and Antropi (UFRGS). Between research and teaching, he has works with the Center for Applied Informatics in Education – Nied (Unicamp), the Laboratory of Advanced Studies in Journalism – Labjor (Unicamp), and the Center of Science History (USP).
