The role and potential of the Open University municipal centers between the formal and non-formal

The Open University of Brazil (UAB) municipal support centers (over 700) are fertile ground for research into the emergence of new teaching and learning models within the tenets of open education. The aim of this research is to analyze the centers as hybrid spaces for professional development in the interface between the formal and the non-formal, trying to understand how they produce — and what paths can be established to produce — open educational practices and open educational resources (OER). In the theoretical sphere we seek to understand the hybrid nature of the centers through emerging concepts such as networks, collectives, third-spaces, among others. The activities carried out in thirteen centers of the UAB are the object of research, conducted through questionnaires and interviews.
